TOOTH DECAY AND DENTAL IMPLANTS

Are you missing 1 or more teeth? Are you looking for a permanent, long-lasting solution for your smile? Look no further; our dental implants have been our most raved about tooth restoration procedure here at PGA Dentistry.

How Does Tooth Decay Work?

Tooth decay can come in many forms but the most common occurrence of tooth decay is when bacteria in your mouth create acid and plaque buildup that slowly eats away and erodes the hard outer layer of a tooth, called the enamel. Typically if tooth decay is left untreated, it can cause further damage such as a cavity. A cavity is when the enamel has been eaten through; the bacterium will continue to erode the tooth through the middle layer (dentin), and the center of the tooth (pulp).

The center of the tooth contains nerves and blood vessels, so when affected, the cavity that the bacteria has created can potentially irritate the gum and nerves and cause a lot of pain and sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures. This can be a very uncomfortable situation when eating or drinking as anything that touches the exposed cavity area and nerves can trigger discomfort and ache. Overall, the more layers affected by decay, the worse the damage. If untreated, there is a significant chance that the compromised tooth will fall out. This creates room for more decay and damage to the surrounding teeth and gums while leaving a less than appealing look; a smile with missing teeth.

Dental Implants To The Rescue!

Dental implants can rescue you and your smile. With our revolutionary dental implants, we can create a custom-designed smile for you that not only looks beautiful, it can save your oral health from getting worse and compromising other parts of your body’s health. Dental implants are considered the best solution to replacing missing teeth because of their convenience and lifetime benefits. After the initial consultation has been completed and it has been agreed that dental implants are the best solution for you, the next step is to get titanium posts screwed to the jawbone to ensure the foundation is stable for your new replacement teeth.

Sharon lost most of her teeth due to failure of her old crowns. She was extremely fearful of dentists and wanted a dentist who could provide her with permanent implant options under sedation. After dental reconstruction, Sharon can smile with confidence and never worry about wearing dentures.

As the jawbone heals, the implant will start the process of osseointegration; this is when the implant fuses with the jawbone for a lifetime of stability. This process can take up to a few months to fully heal. Once the implant and the jawbone bond together your carefully matched replacement teeth will be placed over the stop of the titanium post to put together your brand new smile.
