Dr. Jay Ajmo is happy to offer porcelain crowns as a method for restoring damaged or decayed teeth, and even for topping dental implants. Porcelain crowns provide excellent replacement teeth that look just like your natural teeth. Here at PGA Dentistry, we accomplish this by modeling your porcelain crowns after scans taken of your natural teeth. By doing this, we are able to match your crowns down to the color and texture of your natural teeth. We encourage you to read on to learn more about the porcelain crown procedure and the steps involved with it.
Determining Your Candidacy
It’s important to first find out if cosmetic crowns are best for you and your smile. Each patient is different, and we understand that each patient has diverse needs.
Cosmetic crowns are best for patients who have suffered the following:
- Teeth discoloration
- Decaying or damaged teeth
- Disproportionate teeth
- Recently undergone a root canal
- Cracked or chipped teeth
- Difficulty chewing or biting due to misaligned teeth
Cosmetic crowns will help change the way your smile appears, and it’s vital that you prepare for this change as well. During your consultation with Dr. Ajmo, don’t hesitate to ask any questions about your treatment path and what the outcome will be.
The Process To Beautiful Replacement Teeth
The actual process behind replacing your teeth with porcelain crowns is actually not all that complicated. Like most procedures, your journey begins with a consultation with Dr. Ajmo at his Palm Beach Gardens, FL office. During your consultation, the doctor will perform a thorough examination to ensure that porcelain crowns are the best possible treatment option for your needs. He will also take this time to answer any additional questions or concerns you might have about the treatment.
If porcelain crowns prove to be a good treatment option for you, you will return at a scheduled date to begin the procedure. During this first visit, any decay will be removed from your tooth and it will then be shaped to hold a crown. Once properly shaped, we will take impressions of your teeth, which will be sent to our lab and used to create your new crowns. We will also attach a temporary crown, which will last you the time it will take to finish your new replacement tooth.
When your new porcelain crowns are complete, you will return to our office for your second visit. At this point, Dr. Ajmo will secure your crown to your tooth using high-quality dental cement. Dr. Ajmo works hard to ensure that each crown he places is fitted properly so that it works and feels just like a natural tooth. Once your new crown is in place and properly fitted, you will be able to show off your new smile to the world.
Caring For Your Temporary Crown
During the porcelain crown procedure, you will spend about 3 weeks using a temporary crown. Unlike porcelain crowns, temporary crowns are made from acrylic, which is much weaker than the porcelain that will make up your final crown. Because of this, there are some precautions you should take when eating. For instance, hard foods, such as nuts and fresh vegetables, should be avoided as they can damage your temporary crown. It is also important to avoid eating stickier foods, such as caramel, taffy, and chewing gum, as these treats could actually pull your temporary crown right off your tooth.
