IV Sedation involves a sedative administered by the cosmetic dentist intravenously to help you relax during the procedure. You are NOT put to sleep; many report a dream-like state that greatly reduces anxiety levels. This is good for two reasons, the dental work goes by quickly and you will have little to no memory of the work performed. This keeps you relaxed and at ease throughout even the most difficult cosmetic dental procedures.

What is IV Sedation?

IV Sedation involves a sedative administered by the cosmetic dentist intravenously to help you relax during the procedure. You are NOT put to sleep; many report a dream-like state that greatly reduces anxiety levels. This is good for two reasons, the dental work goes by quickly and you will have little to no memory of the work performed. This keeps you relaxed and at ease throughout even the most difficult cosmetic dental procedures.

Keep in mind that you will still have your local anesthesia (Lidocaine, Articaine, or Marcaine), the medication that numbs the area prior to work being performed. The IV Sedation is administered prior to the local anesthesia to prevent patients from experiencing the fear often related to injections or needles. The only thing that IV Sedation will do is relax you to the point that you will not be worried or on edge about the procedure, the needles, or any sounds that you may hear.

Benefits of IV Sedation

There are many benefits to receiving IV Sedation for your dental work, including:
  • IV Sedation provides little to no memory of the dental treatment after you wake
  • Great for those with needle phobias
  • Great for those who suffer from moderate to severe dental anxiety
  • Safe, adjustable, and monitored
  • Effects felt immediately
  • Used to reverse years of dental neglect easily and calmly
  • Minimal downtime
Board Certification in IV Sedation

Only cosmetic dentists Board Certified in IV Sedation can administer sedative intravenously. Also make sure your dentist is a member of the American Society of Dental Anesthesiologists. With board certification, the doctor has been well-versed in administering this type of anesthesia and you can be assured of a safe and pain-free dental experience.
