About Dental Implants: How Dental Implants Can Help Quality of Life?
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental Implant Restorations are replacement teeth comprised of several components: An IMPLANT POST made of biocompatible titanium which is anchored to the jawbone, an IMPLANT ABUTMENT which attaches to the implant and protrudes from the gum line, & a custom made RESTORATION (oftentimes a CROWN or BRIDGE) which is fitted onto the abutment for a natural appearance.

What Are The Benefits of Dental Implants?
- Dental Implants feel & function just like your natural teeth so you can eat comfortably & speak clearly
- Dental Implants restore the look of real teeth, so you can smile confidently
- Dental Implants securely support porcelain crowns, permanent porcelain bridgework or attached partial or complete dentures
-
Dental Implants maintain the natural bone structures of your jaws and face, preventing premature aging associated with tooth loss and bone resorption

- Dental implants can last a lifetime with proper care
Who Is A Candidate For Dental Implants?
Most adults at any age who want to replace missing teeth are candidates for dental implants. They are used to permanently replace a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth & have become the optimum choice for many patients requiring tooth replacement & dental restoration. Implants also serve as secure attachments for removable dental prostheses such as full dentures or partial plates.

What Does A Complete Dental Implant Procedure Involve?
The process in our office has become simplified because we use state of the art techniques to surgically place & completely restore your implants all in our specially designed Cosmetic & Implant facility in Palm Beach Gardens. We'll schedule your implant surgery in our on-site surgical suite where you'll be kept comfortable & relaxed with a sedative if necessary. Dr. Ajmo will place small biocompatible implant posts precisely where your teeth are missing in your jaws. The same day in many cases, he will attach abutments & immediate load temporary crowns to the implants. Your mouth will heal over the next few weeks & the implants will fuse to your jawbone over several months (a process called osseointegration). After the implants are securely fused to your jawbone, Dr. Ajmo will custom design long lasting permanent restorations that will look, feel & function like your real teeth. Your personal treatment plan may include a single tooth replacement with a cosmetic porcelain crown, the replacement of multiple teeth with permanent bridgework, or a full set of replacement teeth. Dr. Ajmo also offers a variety of implant retained denture options that firmly & securely support removable appliances without the use of messy glues or denture adhesives.
To ensure your comfort during Implant procedures, we offer a variety of relaxing sedation techniques including Mild Oral Sedation & IV Sedation. Since Dr. Ajmo is Board Certified in IV Sedation & is highly skilled in all of these comprehensive implant services, you can be certain you're getting the most comfortable care possible while feeling confident that you're receiving the absolute best in modern dentistry.

Are Dental Implants Better Than Dentures?
Many patients with lower dentures suffer from slipping & looseness . This makes eating & speaking quite an ordeal, leading to embarrassment & frustration in everyday life. Removable dentures also cause jawbone resorption resulting in a loss of volume & fullness to the lips, mouth & face. Fact is, the lower portion of the face ages the fastest, long before the region around the eyes & forehead. Tooth loss & denture wear lead to a gradual "collapsing of the bite" resulting in a decreased vertical dimention, or height between the nose & chin. The lips flatten & droop down in the corners & the lower portion of the face caves in, increasing your perceived age by decades.

Dental implants are securely anchored to the jawbone, just like natural teeth. They stimulate jawbone support while minimizing a patient's jawbone resorption & potential for osteoporosis of the jaws. Once secured, implant restorations will not move. They require no suction, clasps, adhesives or relining like traditional full denture plates. Patients can eat chewy, crunchy or hard foods that may not have been part of their diet as regular denture wearers. Speech is usually restored to normal so the embarrassment & frustration associated with removable dentures is gone. With Implant Dentistry, Dr. Ajmo can restore facial volume, lip fullness & vertical height between the nose & chin achieving a more youthful appearance to your mouth & your whole face. You'll also like the fact that implants usually last a lifetime when cared for properly.

How Safe Is Dental Implant Placement?
Dentists have been placing dental implants for well over 25 years & when properly placed & restored, are very safe. As technology continues to improve, statistics show that dental implants are successful in approximately 98% of cases. They have rapidly become the gold standard of care for patients who want to replace missing teeth. In our office, patients are experiencing greater than 99% success with all dental implant procedures.

When Is Bone Grafting Necessary?
In the past, the lack of adequate bone in the jaws was a common problem limiting Dental Implant placement. This oftentimes left us with few tooth replacement options besides removable partial or complete dentures. Today we have a number of bone grafting & ridge augmentation methods available to increase the quantity & density of bone in the jaws allowing for more ideal implant positioning & more predictable implant stability. Dr. Ajmo uses the most advanced bone grafting & ridge augmentation techniques allowing us to place Dental Implants in areas of the mouth that were previously untreatable. Digital X-rays or CT-Scans will be taken of you jaws to show us exactly where bone grafting may be indicated for your particular situation.
Patients appreciate the convenience and reliability of seeing the same full service implant dentist in one office without having to drive around to see a variety of doctors in different offices. For patients who want more relaxation during dental implant procedures, Dr. Ajmo offers the comfortable options of Mild Oral Sedation or IV Sedation. He is the only restorative dentist in the Northern Palm Beaches to be Board Certified in IV Sedation & is an active member of The American Dental Society of Anesthesiologists. Patients who experience stress or anxiety about implant dentistry can be totally confident that they will be kept comfortable & relaxed throughout all their implant procedures; during both the surgical & restorative phases. His office in Palm Beach Gardens is uniquely designed to combine the advances of modern technology with a relaxing comfortable atmosphere.
When Are Sinus Lifts Necessary?
In the upper jaw (maxilla) are hollow sinus spaces where air is inhaled. Oftentimes when upper back molars are lost, the sinus spaces become enlarged limiting implant placement. A sinus lift procedure involves bone grafting to lift the maxillary sinus spaces, allowing us to place dental implants & replace missing upper back molars. In some cases, sinus lift procedures can be performed at the same time as implant placement, thereby minimizing the number of surgical procedures.
Does Your Office Provide CT-Scans For Implants?
Yes we do! Complex cases of Implant Surgery oftentimes warrant CT-Scan diagnosis. A CT-Scan takes a 3 dimentional image of your jaws so we can precisely & predictably plan the exact size & location of implant placement prior to surgery.
Virtual Implant Placement (VIP): Specialized Training For Successful Results
Virtual Implant Placement (VIP) is a computerized Implant treatment planning software from Biohorizons Inc. that allows Dr. Ajmo to plan your implant placement using a 3D computer simulation of your jaws prior to your implant surgery. By predictably planning the exact location, angulation & size of your dental implants on a virtual image of your jaws, implant surgery becomes much more predictable & successful. By anticipating where replacement teeth should ideally be before implant surgery, clinical & esthetic results are greatly enhanced.
